Holiday at Val Gardena!
Conquering the peaks!
At the beginning of the 19th century, the first mountaineering enthusiasts decided to discover the mountains, thus founding what in the following century became the alpine guides group.
The alpinism in the Dolomites of Val Gardena looks back at a long tradition boasting many pioneers as for example the mountaineer Ferdinand Glück from Selva Gardena, who in the 1930s was known as “King of the Sella Towers”. But also the recent history of Val Gardena has generated heroes of the mountains like the extreme climber Karl Unterkircher, who died in 2008 during an expedition on Nanga Parbat. He was born in Selva Gardena and was an alpine guide and member of the known Catores group as well as the president of the mountain rescue service Aiut Alpin Dolomites. To this day, togetherness and solidarity are the virtues that characterise the mountaineers of Val Gardena. In the valley, the Val Gardena Mountain Guide Association and the Alpine School Catores organise personalized hiking and climbing excursions.
Mountaineers and mountain bike aficionados on the discovery of the mountain world, hikers and Nordic Walking enthusiasts and some keen paragliders, who observe the Dolomites from a bird’s eye view.
A clear and warm summer day in the alpine world of the Dolomites is an unforgettable experience: the Nature Park Puez-Odle and the Nordic Active Park in the idyllic Vallunga are two unique attractions. The guests explore the places of interest of this area comprising for example monuments like the ruins of the Wolkenstein Castle, the native village of the famous minstrel Oswald von Wolkenstein, or the
St. Sylvester’s Chapel in Vallunga. The home of the world-renowned mountaineer Luis Trenker, whose name is also borne by a promenade, boasts a lively atmosphere and is surrounded by an impressive nature. Classic tours in summer include the hikes to the symbols of the valley, the Sella and the Sassolungo. The loop trail around the Sassolungo is also fantastic by bike. An excursion through the so-called Stone City, which has been immortalised by many popular tales and legends, is ideal for all nature and sports lovers.
